AT&T 3G Shutdown

For numerous years AT&T and other cellular networks have pushed the use of the 5G network so that they could begin shutting down the 3G network entirely. Now, the shutdown of 3G is right around the corner.

When will 3G not be available for GPS Fleet Tracking

AT&T plans to get rid of 3G by February of 2022. That leaves less than a year to make sure you don’t have any 3G GPS tracking devices left in your fleet. Devices that are currently using a 3G network will not function when the sunset occurs.

Upgrading now guarantees your devices are functional and provisioned before AT&T eliminates their 3G network.

I currently have 3G tracking devices. What are my options?

Once you know you have 3G devices in your fleet, you essentially have two options.

1. Swap out your current devices for 4G or 5G devices.
2. Check if your current devices can be reprogrammed to function on a 4G network. Each device in your fleet requires its own specific cell service provider, so some may be reprogrammed. If this is not a choice, see option 1.

Ultimately, no 3G tracking device will work on the 4G network when 3G is no longer available. That is why it’s important to learn about your devices and upgrade now.

What is the best choice to replace 3G tracking devices?
